In an email exchange with Celeste Dupuy-Spencer about her heart-first images of country singers she mused on a line from David Allan Coe’s “Please Come to Denver”: “the one in the speech bubble [in the next picture], is so tender! And then you look at his face haha. It’s like a comedy act.” She also worried the Miranda Lambert pic might a little off: “It had this sheen on it that sort of distorts the graphite. Like the way things glow when your brain doesn’t have enough oxygen… I tried to get the levels right–maybe I did! Maybe you can’t tell?” For more on her images of Vince Gill and George Jones in heaven (below) see here for a review of Dupuy-Spencer’s 2017 show, “Wild and Blue.”
